Example of Statement of Purpose (SOP) for Master in Electro Mobility

Electro Mobility is the future. It’s reshaping the world of mobility. In the present world, we can see the rise in the use of battery powered cycles and scooters and saw that this is the future. Governments across the world pushing the initiative for battery powered vehicles. I have even come across a news item about an aircraft that is entirely battery and solar powered. The future is here and I wish to be part of this electromobility revolution. That brings me to this course and to this university.

I have observed battery powered cars, industrial equipment and even buses and find that though the technology appears simple, there are a great many variables that need to be factored in for flawless operations. I would therefore like to delve deeper into electro mobility and learn all aspects such as electronics related to motors and battery charging as well as controls, computerised control systems, mechanical aspects and the environmental aspects as well.

This program is a perfect fit for me since it incorporates topics relevant to my future course of work and of interest to me to acquire capabilities and skill sets to work as an engineer. The Master course offers subjects like:

– AI & Autonomous driving

–Connectivity

–E-powertrain

–Sustainable mobility & Production Technology

Why this university

I believe that Germany and Germans are unequalled in the matters related to engineering. Even today, despite the rise of Japan, Korea and China, German products stand in a class apart as can be seen in the way Mercedes and BMW cars are trusted for reliability and excellence. There is perfection and meticulous attention to precision and detail, to the point of fanaticism. I like this attitude because there can be no compromise on quality.

Why Germany

It will be a privilege to study in Germany and imbibe these values. This university happens to be located in Germany and it focuses more on future technology studies of which electromobility is one. It has excellent faculty known for their expertise and knowledge. The campus is excellent and students can work on projects, read in the library, access resources and use the workshop for practical project work. It is also highly rated for academic excellence and quality of education.

My Past Studies

During my B.Tech, I studied topics like AUTOMOTIVE CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION , AUTOMOTIVE SYSTEM DESIGN 1&2 , AUTOMOTIVE TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS, AUTOTRONICS and AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM  and did Core subjects  practicals in LAB. Moreover, I earned academic experience in AUTOMOTIVE POWER TRAIN AND ELECTRICAL SERVICING LAB.

VEHICLE TESTING AND SCANNING LAB.

I also studies production related subjects like

  • PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
  • MECHANICS OF MATERIALS
  • MATERIAL SCIENCE AND METALLURGY
  • FOUNDRY ANO FORGING LAB

My Past Experience

During my college studies I worked as an intern at Sai Servicce in Goa for 3 weeks and then in Sai Motors in their Tata Division in Bagalkot where I was a supervisor and technician for 6 weeks. I joined Global Manufacturing Solutions in April 2021 and worked there as a design engineer till 31st March 2021. I specialized in CNC machine operations.

I did my diploma in mechanical engineering from the Oxford Polytechnic and passed in 2017. In 2020 I obtained a degree in engineering from Basaveshwar Engineering College in Bagalkot, during which time I did the above internships.

Before that I was working as a car engineering technician with Samarth Automotivez. My work involved checking passenger motor cars, diagnosis of faults and carrying out of repairs. I worked under a senior mechanic. I worked here from 2014 to 2016 in Sindhnoor but decided that if I wanted to advance I would have to study further and left to join the engineering course.

Classes/projects that I undertook

Projects were part of my engineering studies. I did a project on design and development of a hybrid tricyclel that could be operated with a pedal as well as with a battery powered motor that could be charged with solar power as well as conventional power. I also worked on another project on Tidal Energy Generation, in which I used the concept of moving waves powering blades that would rotate and turn a dynamo to generate power in coastal areas.

I have gained proficiency in the use of engineering related software such as PTC-CREO, Solid Works and Catia V5.

Leadership/community experience

During the covid pandemic I found myself at a loose end. I spent the time profitably by studying in private and preparing for further studies. I also took time to engage myself in social service activities.

During my college days I was active in various activities such as working as a member of the QCFI and SAE India. I helped to organize events and coordinated activities.

Values I bring to the institution

I am enthusiastic, persistent and hard working. I will use these qualities to study hard and emerge successful. Hopefully I will be able to return to India and work in the emerging electromobile sector. Almost all car manufacturers have battery powered cars on their roadmap and I believe I will easily get a job.

Career goals and how this course will help

I hope to contribute to improved design and performance in electric automotives. This degree course will help me to acquire skills that will get me into middle management position as a design engineer in any of the leading automotive car makers in India. This course is the springboard of my career and success.
