Statement of Purpose sample for Undergraduate Program in Business Management

Mountains are not insurmountable as those who have climbed Mount Everest have shown us. Take it one step at a time is the advice to reach one’s goal, aptly summarized in the quote by Woody Allen: ”No matter how far you have reached, there is always a higher destination” This is the story of my life so far. How one manages is crucial to the outcome. This is one reason why I am considering this Undergraduate Program in Management at the This University in the USA—I wish to become proficient in management.

I studied industrial and production engineering from SJCE but even during my engineering studies I was more inclined towards management. I got an opportunity to learn management and practice it during my second year internship at Central Workshop South Western Railways. During this internship  I was tasked with overseeing progress of projects and ensuring smooth collaboration between teams. I delved into aspects of marketing management, management and entrepreneurship, operations research and organizational behavior. I feel these topics need to be learnt in depth, a reason why I wish to pursue this course.

I had a further opportunity to fine hone my skills and learn more when I worked as a volunteer with PRAYAS, a social outreach program to help children. I had multiple responsibilities like managing schedules, allotting tasks and motivating children. For my final year studies I took on a project with 4 team members on Operation Research Software Development in collaboration with the Computer Science Department of our college. We worked on resolving issues related to Linear Programming, Transportation and Assignment, Network Optimization, Queuing Theory and Gaming theory. We worked on development of an algorithm for each module and map them to the workflow. I oversaw the project and brought it to fruition. The project was implemented and deployed in the university curriculum to solve real world problems.  All these experiences gave me insights into management and I feel this is my calling in life.

I eventually graduated with a score of 9.59 CPGA and started work for TE Connectivity, working as an R&D/Product Development Engineer. I have about 1.5 years experience in managing tasks related to life cycle of products from EMEA and APAC regions.

Apart from study related projects I have been active in several other areas. I planned and organized TEYP, a youth oriented annual engineers meet. I have taken part in school events such as sports, cultural day and zonal level events and I oversaw the Disciplinary Committee of the School and led my school team to wins in inter-school competitions. I captained the school throw ball team and secured the runner up position in the zonal event. I have organized the church choirs in my community. I have developed managerial skills and now need to undergo professional management training to make management my career.

This University is known for high quality of education and it enjoys a reputation for excellence. The course covers important aspects in a structured and easy to follow method. Students who study here truly learn and become skilled, delivering value when they go on to work. The campus life is also interesting and appealing since I will get a chance to interact with students from across the world. The university’s faculty and alumni are acknowledged as thought leaders, which is another motivating factor.

I aspire to acquire knowledge as per international standards. The USA is just right for me since it welcomes students from all over the world. Its method and system of education is one which I admire for offering students basic starter courses and thereafter progressively advanced courses in the same field. I know a few students from India who are in the USA and they have recommended that I should study in this country for international standard knowledge.

I believe This is the best place where I can undergo systematic, rigorous and professional training that will prepare me for a career as a manager. The USA is my choice for studies due to its environment, its system of education and because I believe the USA is a fine example of global business management. I will learn about management and also acquire personal and professional polish that will stand in good stead during my working life and personal life. This is the starting point to my future life, a dream realized and aspirations fulfilled.

My chief goal is to land a job in a large, multinational organizations in India. The work culture and the system of work is such that they prefer candidates who have international accreditations or degrees and some experience of interacting with people from different countries. This system means that if I have a foreign certification I can be preferred for a job and also look forward to rapid promotions and a better salary in India. With this better salary I can live a comfortable live. It is worth the time, effort and expense of studying abroad since I aim to work in an international milieu.
