MSc Economics SOP example for the UK and other foreign universities

While MBA does cover a lot of aspects, I find that Economics is a vast area and offers much more interesting and challenging possibilities. I wish to study Economics as a way to gain a toehold in government jobs or in academics where I can use this knowledge for the greater good. Along with MBA, I also pursued a Company Secretary Course but dropped this due to time constraints. My MBA has not been in vain. I have majored in Finance and Economics will complement it perfectly, which is why I choose to pursue the MSc Economics course. My education will be complete at least in one respect and it will enable me to follow a meaningful career with purpose.

Of all the universities I find Swansea University to be the best suited to my aspirations. That it is the first in Wales for internal ranked research and that it has excellent campus and faculty is another deciding factor. More important is that it offers precisely the course modules which are of interest to me and which complement my degree in finance. The university offers campus based studies and a chance to undertake research in applied situations. It will prepare me to take on challenging positions in private or in government and deliver best outcomes. The University of Swansea is a prestigious university in the UK.

As to why I choose England, I must state that I have always admired the system of education here and respect its academics as well as institutions and methods of learning. I will learn something about culture, its etiquettes and emerge a polished person.

Experience

I completed my MBA in 2018 and have been preparing and appearing for various Government exams in order to gain employment. However, I have realized that I possess aptitude for corporate sector. I think that instead of persisting on gaining a government or bank job I would be better off by studying more and then applying for challenging positions in the world of corporations.

Classes/projects

Apart from MBA, I tried to pursue a Company Secretary course and joined the CS student induction programme conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. I also joined the Research Methodology workshop in graduation.

My MBA study project also involved internship in a company. I undertook review of the financial structure, analysed its operations and submitted a report on financial restructuring that would lead to optimised performance. My inputs were put into use and led to gains.

Leadership/community experience

While in school and in college I took part in various activities and created my own group to promote cooking and travel, which are topics close to my heart. I organized a couple of tours and led my fellow students on hiking expeditions in the North of India.

Values I bring to the institution

I have ambition and I work hard. I believe in women’s emancipation and empowerment. In addition I have a keenly analytical mind with a passion for business analytics. I bring these values to the institution and hope to study hard and bring credit to the university by being a model student. Besides, I also bring with me our traditional values and culture that I hope will interest other students.

Career goals and how this course will help

There is quite a bit of demand for specialists in Economics in India. I hope to get into a government job where my knowledge of economics will help me to contribute positively to the country’s growth and to the betterment of its people. I may, in the distant future, be part of Economic policy shaping groups and strengthen the economic base, improve GDP and be instrumental in employment generation. This course will give me the strength, confidence and knowledge to discharge my duties and play a positive role in the country’s growth.
