Statement of Purpose
Name: ……………………………..
Course: Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management, Public Policy
Institution: Indian Institute of Management (IIM)
Human resource is the grates asset that an organization can possess. And I aspire to delve deeper into Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management and Public Policy. Understanding human behaviours and responses as well as managing human resources can greatly contribute to organizational efficiency and achievement of goals. My work so far has been with humanity services and I have learnt a lot while observing deficiencies in my knowledge make up, leading me to think that now is a good time to get those skills and then advance further in life.
I wish to gain deeper insights and understanding of organizational behaviour and human resource management as well as in public policy making. There are hundreds of organizations working for the good of humanity and one needs to understanding human behaviour as well as organizational behaviour in order to fit in and do one’s best as well as motivate co-workers to do their best. I wish to learn about human resource management since it is the best asset of any organization and knowledge helps one to get the best out of people. I feel this program is the best for me in terms of flexibility of timing, choice of topics and, importantly, the courseware. It aligns with my interest and career objective.
Why IIM
IIMs enjoy an unequalled reputation not just in India but also across the world, ranking in the top 100 as institutions of excellent learning. IIM is my choice since, first of all, it offers the course of my choice right here in India so I will not have to waste time travelling halfway across the world to learn about HR processes that may not be in consonance with Indian requirements. I am sure the university’s course structure and design take into consideration the Indian ambience and applicability of policy making, behavioural patterns and HR in the Indian context. This country is where I was born and brought up. This is where I work and this is where my children will grow up. India may not be the best but it is more than good enough for me in terms of quality of education, particularly when dispensed by august institutions such as the IIMs.
Experience
I completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Construction from Jadhavpur University in 2018. The normal thing would be to become a civil engineer and work with a construction and infrastructure development company. However, fate had other things in store. I was offered a position as an executive in Pradan, an NGO in Bokaro, Jharkhand. The job seemed interesting and I took it on, becoming more immersed with the passage of time. I handled facilitation of government schemes like MGNREGA and GDP, liaisoned with panchayats and government officers and worked to develop sustainable use of natural resources. My key role was to train people to implement programs and participate in them. I learnt a lot about human relationships and behaviours as well as how an organization works.
I left Pradan in July 2019 and joined Embibe as Academic Lead in May 2020. My job functions mainly relate to User Acceptance Testing in Mathematics. The company I work for is into education and I train faculty to review questions and detect errors prior to online publication.
Classes/projects
I do take a little bit of pride in my pet project EFA or Education for All. I initiated this project in my college and put together a team. We visited different schools in West Bengal and gave assistance in tutoring students.
During my study period I joined and passed the exam of Chegg India for advanced mathematics with a score of 80%.
I worked as convenor of our college cultural festival from January 1028 to March 2018.
I played a key role in organizing the Youth Money Olympiad in association with Money-Wizard of Singapore.
Leadership/community experience
During my first job I had to work with various teams and gave each one directions as well as support to help them carry out their tasks. In my second job I train faculty members in the right way to review questions and answers to mathematics problems.
As for community experience I have over a year of working in an NGO, providing guidance and assistance to women collectives. Women in the rural areas are truly disadvantaged and need a lot of support to emerge from traditional walls that restrict their development.
Values I bring to the institution
I have about a year’s experience in an NGO and I have gained practical, hands-on experience working with an NGO at the grass roots level. It has changed my outlook on life and made me realize just how fortunate I am to be where I am and also that I got a chance to help people. I hope to study more, gain advanced skills and do more for people of my country.
Career goals and how this course will help
My goal is to become a senior level executive or manager of an organization in India, particularly in the HR division and bring about some changes in the way people within an organization behave, interact and work for the company. I hope to give my employer the benefit of my knowledge to empower workforces and derive better productivity. This course will give me insights and knowledge in areas where I lack professional training.
